Clowning around with Zara

I mentioned in my about me that my posts will contain some comedy. The title of this blog post is exactly that. When I initially saw this top on the rack I LOVED IT. Immediately found my size and said MINE…. then when I put it on I realized it reminded me of a clown’s top with the ruffles. Didn’t seem to bother me much when it came to wearing it though!

This top incorporates the continuing off the shoulder trend with the statement sleeves being bell sleeves. God that was a lot of rambling about sleeves. Point is that this top is fabulous. I absolutely love it… it goes perfect with my clowning around attitude.

The jeans are also Zara… it was a gamble buying jeans from here. I tried on a few of their jeans and the cuts seem to be all sorts of different depending on the style. Disappointing to see that the flared ankle jeans DO NOT flatter me at all, a trend I won’t be enjoying. These jeans are mid rise and stretchy, which for a first pair would be my best gamble. Unsure if these jeans stretch after wearing them more or if they shrink after washing them. I do hope they stretch out the more I wear them… I also was wearing them on days that were 70 degrees almost 80, which was not helping my full review. Other than that I like how they fit me and they do feel comfortable since they are so stretchy. Stay tuned for my continued review on these jeans..

Lastly, the shoes. I don’t have many shots of these shoes but I am SO INCREDIBLY happy that these are in style. It is so much easier to wear over gladiators or any other thong sandal. Curious to see how these will handle my NYC street walking but I am anticipating it to be a comfortable stride. I fully plan on purchasing more of these styles, maybe even a bit of a sportier sandal which might be even better during the summer months to come.

Red Ruffles

Ruffles are trending. I caved & bought into a trend. When I first saw this shirt I fell in love with the color, I mean just look at how beautiful that red is! This spring it is all about the statement sleeves. And as much as I love them sometimes it just is not practical to wear every day. Maybe for a night out but I wanted to find something in between to balance out this trend. This top does exactly that… Not only does it bring me away from my typical black or white go to top, but its a minimal enough ruffle where I don’t feel overpowered by the top. Instead I’m feeling empowered and ready to take on the day! It is definitely something I would wear to work, you can dress it up or dress it down. For me this would be dressing up  my look a bit for work, my office setting is a casual work attire which makes life so much easier… but also a challenge since they all know that I am a fashion blogger. Plenty of rainy days were a blogger off duty look haha!

In Between Weather: Layers

Layers. Its key to almost every in between season. Layers are great to wear because if it gets warmer you can take the bulkier layers off and still be comfortable. Or if it gets a little colder you can add the layers on to stay a little warmer. I’ve been seeing so many bloggers layer looks especially with slip dresses and slip tops. Although I only have a slip dress, I didn’t want to waste money by purchasing another top that would just be in my closet for one specific look. Converting my slip dress into a slip top was easy.. I just tucked it into my jeans. The material is thin enough where it wouldn’t bulk up and look funny which made life so much easier. I recently got this simple top from Zara, of course I have it in black too. I am trying my best to stay clear of buying black clothing items since I have SO MANY already. This was a compromise since gray is in the same color family of my favorite color to wear.

I wanted to keep with the trends of the fishnets under the jeans look, it was some what strange to wear. Despite the fishnets being thin, it is still another layer… underneath your jeans. My jeans are ripped at the knee so its a cute little pop that you’d see when I’m walking or sitting down. Its a fun little surprise to my outfit that most might not see immediately. Wearing my trusty leather jacket draped over my shoulders has been my go to look for the past 2 seasons (I’m counting winter as almost over with that quick warm weather we got). This changes the entire look and I highly recommend trying it out… just not walking around on a cold winter day. It looks cute, but doesn’t feel so cute as your getting a blast of cold winter air in your face and chest.

Accessorizing this was rather easy and I wanted to keep things simple. My velvet choker added another fabric style to the mix and my Dynamite layered necklace. Of course I had to wear my Quay Australia Vivenne glasses. I love them dearly. Also because it was so windy out my eyes were tearing… it was so bad that my liquid liner was smudging terribly and my makeup was making its way onto my contact lenses! Not sure if this has ever happened to any one else before but it has happened to me way too often that I know what to do. And that was to cut my photoshoot short and fix my lenses haha!

Weekend Look

The title of this post is rather self explanatory. Lately I have been having fun wearing these leather leggings, not only are they comfortable but they change the entire look compared to regular leggings. Normally I hate not wearing a regular shirt with leggings because I preferred to be covered, finding comfortable tunics that don’t look like dresses on me are pretty seldom finds. For a happy medium I’ve settled on wearing this waterfall sweater which I have had for ages. Not only am I completely comfortable with how I look but I also don’t feel like a complete bum when I leave the house in this. Throwing on my OTK boots dresses this look up a lot more. What your not seeing is the fuzzy socks that I am wearing on the inside of these boots to keep my feet nice and toasty during the freezing cold. I threw my jacket over my shoulders since it was FREEZING outside when I took these, normally I just wear this outfit around the house.. well minus the OTK boots.

Fashionably Furry: Black Faux Fur Jacket Jackpot

I have returned!! Not sure how many of you have noticed that I haven’t posted a new look in about 2 weeks. The reason being may surprise you, it may not. I want to take a minute to be honest with my followers and readers. I had to take a break from posting on social media for a reason that has nothing to do with fashion but with politics. I want to make this a short explanation because I do not like discussing politics, I’d much rather get my tooth pulled. My social media feed was flooded with these political rants, bashing, arguments, articles, etc. It became a headache to even be on social media without reading something that was probably blow out of context thanks to the media. Taking a break to find that motivation and inspiration was something that I needed. It was a rather boring time since I always look forward to sharing my new looks and putting new outfits together. Especially if I find an awesome deal on something! I can’t hold back my secrets on fashion! So lets jump right into this look that I am BEYOND excited about.

For months now I have been looking for a faux fur jacket. Forever 21 was a gold mine for these back in the fall, but being stubborn and cheap I decided to wait a little longer. I was so wrong about that. Everything sold out so fast and they haven’t restocked anything. My search continued online and I couldn’t find a faux fur jacket that was in a reasonable price range. Once I have tried on a faux fur vest and I didn’t like the way that it fit or how I felt in it. I didn’t feel part of my style. This year I wanted to take the risk and find that perfect faux fur jacket. My mom was there to save my never ending search! She pulled this jacket out of the basement closet as if it was a magic trick. Why she kept this a secret of the hidden temple is beyond me. But she was happy to let it become part of my closet and watch me play “dress up” for my blog. Now I am honest blogger, so I will tell you that I am assuming that this is faux fur. I can’t confirm that it is or not because none of the labels inside of the jacket say what kind of material is made of. My mom acquired this jacket from an old neighbor, she assumes that it is a real fur jacket. It will be a mystery until I bring it to the cleaners. I will tell you that it is pretty warm and I wasn’t shivering while taking these pictures outside.

The top I am wearing is a Dynamite archive from last year. These tops were very much in style and I just HAD TO HAVE ONE. But a majority of stores were selling these as unitards. I am not comfortable wearing this style because I am forever afraid that the buttons will come undone and the back will be hanging out of my pants. As always, my favorite store Dynamite was to the rescue. This is a shirt. Yes, ladies a lace up fitted shirt. I love it! The details on this are even better because the bottoms of the strings are gold which add a little extra flair to the look. This year the trend rolled into lace up sweaters, which is another great option for your closet too!

I am also wearing my new favorite ankle booties by Steven Madden. These are very comfortable to walk in and I almost forgot that I even had heels on. This time around I decided to tuck my jeans into the booties for a different look. Because these booties come up a little higher than my ankle it was easier for me to do. I also noticed many other bloggers have been wearing this look as well. Their jeans bunch up a little like mine, so 1. I don’t feel as bad for struggling with this 2. it seems to be a style that every one is rocking. Now I can’t forget about my favorite Quay cat eye sunnies. Rose gold is an obsession of mine that has continued to grow and possibly grow into a crazy problem. I have already found rose gold nail polish, sneakers, and have been eyeing some jewelry too.

One more thing.. I have created this new pose that you will be seeing throughout the next few posts coming… I call it. THE FLAMINGO. Totally non-intentional. I look ridiculous. And its hilarious. So lets all laugh together at this shall we?

Wild peacoats: accesorizing your winter outerwear

img_3422img_3424img_3449

Peacoats have always been my favorite winter coats. It could be because when I was younger the puffer jackets were in style, but not just ANY puffer jackets. Northface puffer jackets. Yes, I was warm but I also looked like a chicken with this oversized jacket and tiny legs. If any girl who has gone to private school, you know that stockings DO NOTHING when it comes to warmth for winter. For me personally, peacoats are just easier to move in. This one that I am wearing I got many, many years ago from New York and Company. What I love most about it is that the collar can pop up for an extra barrier between your face and the wind. The tie around my waist also creates a nice focal point other than my freezing cold face with my red nose and cheeks.

Luckily it hasn’t been too cold here in New York just yet. Ironically tomorrow it will be absolutely freezing here in New York. We go through the phase of when you leave for work in the morning your completely bundled but when you leave it isn’t so terrible and the extra layers aren’t needed, especially if your taking public transportation home. Crowded subway cars and buses aren’t a favorite to any one. And then suddenly it is completely frozen outside, drastic winter weather for the win!

I have been trying to incorporate color into my wardrobe and smalls steps are necessary.. This deep violet top is the perfect stepping stone. Not only is it color, but its dark enough that it is almost black! A very happy Wednesday Addams over here!

These shoes I got from DSW last year, they are a suede slip on wedge from Nine West. I was slightly hesitant when I got them because I was unsure of how they looked. That insecurity quickly went when I found it so easy to wear these to work and it made my outfit just a little bit dressier too. The knee ripped jeans from Dynamite are one of my favorites, but they are SO DAMN LONG. #shortgirlproblems I rolled them up to add a different look to the jeans … and because I had no other choice since my ankles looked completely bunched up if I didn’t do that.

For a touch of wild, I added my leopard scarf. As I’ve mentioned, it isn’t too cold out where I need a heavier scarf. So this lightweight scarf is perfect for this weather, and I can wear the scarf as part of my outfit too. VERSATILITY!!

Winter Whites & Faux Fur

img_3227img_3243img_3248img_3216

Not too long ago I posted about this white jacket, I really have become such a fan of the winter whites. It is pulling my away from the head to toe black looks I tend to wear on a daily basis. Some times I wonder if I really am Wednesday Addams all grown up… but my parents never let me have a guillotine like she did, being a historical form of the death penalty didn’t change their minds either… moving on…

As I have previously posted about this faux fur scarf, I wanted to show you other ways of how it can really change your entire look. Today I paired this white jacket with a cream sweater that I got from Express. Its really itchy. Wear a shirt underneath it to battle the itch, and to stay warm. I love the look of the sweater, just not the feel. Despite all of that I really do like the sweater enough to want to wear it. Recently I have also read an article that I found through Bloglovin’ about a jacket style trick. If you haven’t downloaded this app or signed up for it, I highly recommend that you do. Its such an easier way to follow all of your favorite bloggers & interests in one place.. plus I’m on there too – SO FOLLOW ME! Any way, the point of the article was to pull your sweater, blouse, or shirt out long enough so that it can be seen at the bottom of your jacket sleeves. Now I have done this in the past without knowing it was a style trick but more of a way to keep my hands and fingers warm when I’ve left my mittens/gloves at home. It is also a great way to show off the pop of color in your outfit too! Read more about this style trick here on who what wear.

To make this jacket look different, I placed the faux fur scarf around my neck and simply let it hang, it looks like it is part of the jacket collar. Since I can’t seem to get away from the color black, and these are my new favorite boots for the winter season, I wore my over the knee boots with this look and a pair of dark denim jeans from Express.

Onto the accessories… this necklace I got from Dynamite has definitely gotten more than its worth for the amount of times I’ve worn it and I really am into the starburst and celestial styled jewelry. I just wanted to add a little accessory for when I am indoors and not just outside all day. These sunglasses. Oh these sunglasses from Quay Australia. I am a sucker for a pair of cat eyed sunglasses and I really love the rose gold frames. This outfit was the perfect excuse to wear them, they don’t always go with my all black Wednesday Addams look but they do go with my winter whites 😉

With the holiday season beginning this is a fun outfit to wear for a casual holiday party with friends or if you are out in New York City (on a warmer day of course) to see the tree in Rockefeller Christmas tree, the window displays on 5th or the decorated houses in Dyker Heights (which is my personal favorite).

Feeling Blue

It is no lie that blue is my favorite color. I mean I am a huge New York Ranger’s fan afterall, but that has nothing to do with this outfit or post…

I found this Navy Blue Front Tie Top on the sale’s rack at Dynamite. If you didn’t believe that I shop there often, now you do. Jean are also from Dynamite that I purchased last year, below I linked the same pair.

Where to buy…

Some fun facts about the last picture above. My 5 1/2 year old cousin took the photo on her mom’s iPhone. Can we say future photographer??

Almost ready for fall

September may be here but we have another week or so left of summer weather. As ready as I am for fall, this isn’t sweater weather just yet. What I have been noticing many celebrities wearing is this shorts and maxi vest/duster/light weight sweater combo.

Here is my take on the in-between look: Dynamite long waterfall vest in green with a basic black tank top (Forever 21 cami or Dynamite cami), shorts (the ones I am wearing are from Garage clothing which are sold out – similar pair here) and classic low top converse sneakers.

Accessories: Rebecca Minkoff Moto Hobo and Quay Australia Vivienne Sunglasses
