Made in LA

“I want to live in LA.” This is a statement everyone has said at least one point or another, myself included. I was obsessed with the laid back lifestyle, constant sunshine and beaches. Who wouldn’t want to live there?? Even going into this recent trip I wanted that dream to become a potential reality.
After finally getting a job in the concrete jungle & away from the forgotten borough, I fell back in love with NYC. I decided I wanted both… a bicoastal lifestyle. How am I going to achieve it? I’ll figure it out… I mean even this little blog could potentially get me there. Continue reading “Made in LA”

Create & Cultivate: NYC Conference

I found this event when I originally created my twitter, I was looking for other sites to follow & found this cute website where they had a TON of positive and up lifting blogs. This immediately caught my attention, while exploring their site I saw that they had conferences for bloggers… Not only did it include other fashion or lifestyle bloggers but brands and any one interested in this type of field could attend. Luck was on my side when I found out they were preparing an event in NYC! I immediately got my ticket when they went on sale. The main event was going to take place on Saturday, May 6th and there would also be a cocktail hour on Friday, May 5th. I had to attend both since this was in my New York backyard after all.

Friday’s outfit:

When I heard cocktail hour I wasn’t too sure if I originally wanted to go. The following day was going to be a long day and beauty sleep was a priority. Last minute when I saw the space they were going to have it in I decided to go. I wanted my outfit to reflect how beautiful the space was and it was a cocktail hour after all, why not go with a cocktail dress? When I got there I realized how overdressed I was! Standing out from the crowd is what I like to do best any way, so it worked its way out. I met a few other bloggers that night & everyone was super sweet. My goal for the night was to have fun, which I definitely did! Being awkward and shy is also a huge thing for me, I wasn’t able to snag a picture of my full outfit from head to toe but here are 2 awkward photos of my dress 🙂

Satuday’s Outfit:

This outfit was plotted for MONTHS! MONTHS I TELL YOU! Knowing that this was going to be an all day event (8AM to 8PM) comfort was my #1 priority. I found this top on ASOS and fell in love. It was different and incorporated the off the shoulder trend I had been seeing. It was also very ruffly which is crazy in trend as well. If I was going to go over the top for a top, this was it. My accessories were a way for me to bring in some color to my white top… Bauble bar was the way to go. I chose the blue tassel earrings for 2 reasons: 1. it is my favorite color and 2. because the New York Rangers were playing and I was supporting them from Queens with the lack of a TV to watch them (they lost but that’s another story). Adding even more color but still keeping it simple I chose this really awesome colorful bracelet. It was the subtle hint of a confetti of colors that I was looking for. My detail even went to my makeup, inspired by Christen Dominique from Instagram I chose to add some bright purple as my under eye liner.. this also made my hazel eye’s really pop. With a hint of pink lipstick I was ready to go.

I will talk about what I took away from the entire event in another post but I need to take a minute, or a paragraph, to tell you the most amazing part of my experience there. I had the pleasure to meet and listen to Arielle from Somethingnavy. She is one of the first bloggers I began to follow years ago! I never knew much about fashion bloggers nor did I understand how the entire deal worked but I absolutely loved following her instagram. All of her outfits are and continue to be amazing, and even affordable at times – she pairs some high end designers with her looks. Constantly am I looking at her instagram for inspiration, motivation and even just a reminder that she too has some struggles but doesn’t let it stop her. Watching her instastory and even following her on snap chat I was able t see the behind the scenes life she was living. What an inspiration she is to all bloggers around, from the ground up she has built this into a business and to think it all stemmed from her going through a bad break up that she even decided to create the blog in the first place. Being relatable is something she strongly makes sure her readers and followers feel, and as a follower and reader I sense it immediately. Especially when I met her, she gave me a hug and complimented my hair (which was having a total frizz ball moment). She was so humble and so kind and sweet and waited to take pictures and talk to any one that wanted to meet her. If she ever reads this, which I hope she’ll find in her million likes and comments, I just want her to know how inspiring she is. I cannot wait for her clothing line to come out in the fall & I hope that I am able to get it all before it sells out.

New York / Los Angeles

When I first saw this shirt I laughed out loud, because this is my daily struggle. To be a New Yorker for life or up and move to LA. Last year began my love affair for the beautiful state of California, I’m not sure what I fell in love with first but I can sure tell you the calmer vibe definitely caught my attention. In New York and as a New Yorker you are constantly on the go. It never seems to stop. Rest? What’s that? It is the lifestyle that I grew up with and it is a tough one to shake. Even with being in LA for a few days I began to find myself homesick for the simple things that I truly never thought I’d miss… 24 hour delis, $1 slices of pizza, bars open until 3 A.M., even the public transportation which I loathe taking. Since then it has been the battle of the City of Angels and the City that NEVER SLEEPS. I’m hoping to find a compromise some how. Maybe even a bi-coastal lifestyle? We’ll see what the future holds for my current residency, what I do know about my current one is that its cold. And it snowed. And I am so pale.

I struggled taking these photos of this shirt, I had a few different ideas of how to style it. When you have a distinct style and go to look, you begin to wonder if you are becoming predictable. I hate that term. Especially when it comes to my wardrobe. I’d like to think I had grown up a bit when it came to my style. I guess certain things just never change huh? Originally I wanted to pair this with my black knee ripped jeans  and my biker boots. I will probably wear that exact outfit one of these days but not today.. Instead I wanted to try to add it with my “newer” go to look.. jeans and my new favorite nike sneakers. Hey a girl is trying here! Especially with my super pale skin. Ironically I didn’t realize how much of my tan had faded… ok that was a lie. I am just in severe denial that I am no longer tan. This year I really want to continue to embrace my skin tone without having such a complex about it. So to feel a little less self conscious I wore my leather jacket over my shoulders. This trick is an instant way to: 1. feel like a celebrity. 2. feel like a bad ass 3. changes your entire look. I will show you.

Here is a photo of me wearing my leather jacket…

Now here is a photo of me with my leather jacket over my shoulders. See how different it makes the look?

Any thoughts on my hair being straight rather than wavy? I love my magic waves until the day that I die. Then Kim Kardashian finally came back to grace us all with her presence via social media with her long, long straight hair and minimal makeup. She really is one of my favorite celebrities to follow for fashion and style inspiration, you can agree or disagree with that statement. With her curvy body type I look to see what trends she goes with and what tricks she uses to make her look taller and have a balanced look. Like her, I am bottom heavy. I got a big butt and I cannot lie. It is something that just will never change so when picking out clothes I like to make sure it compliments my body type, seeing what Kim K is wearing definitely helps me out to see how I would like certain trends.

Catching up… Repeat Offender

The month of December can easily become the never ending list of things to do. From holiday shopping to holiday parties and preparing for the end of the year celebrations, it is like the energizer bunny. And that is exactly what had happened to me. Being a bit of a procrastinator can be a good and bad thing, the positive side was I didn’t miss any posts that I had planned for the month… but the downfall is that I lacked the time to prepare for the first of the year. Working a full time job and running my blog can be a lot to juggle, any blogger who works full time will tell you that. My blog isn’t a burden to me what so ever, I get more disappointed that I have no time to share my creativity on here because it is something I truly enjoy doing. So since my weekends are normally filled with styling outfits, taking pictures, editing and writing .. the holidays put a halt on that. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day fell on the weekend, although it was strange not doing anything for my blog that weekend it felt really nice to spend time with my family. Even my Christmas gifts were in reference to my blog! Sometimes I wonder if any one reads this thing, I know some do but I understand that life happens and you can’t read every bit of my sometimes lengthy posts.. like this one.

I don’t want to get too much into what I received for Christmas (since I want to use some of them for posts on here) but I will tell you one of my favorite gifts of all. My brother doesn’t read my blog (that I am aware of) so his gift was probably the most surprising of all. Opal is my birthstone and it is so different from all of the other birthstones. From afar it may look almost like a white stone but it has a rainbow crystal look up close. Since I had first gotten my ears pierced (at the lovely age of 7) I fell in love with this stone. It was different, like me. I can’t tell you how long I had these earrings, but I had them in my possession forever it seemed. Unfortunately one day the post broke off, I was devastated. Another pair of opal earrings I had owned I was terrified to wear, the stone was knocked out during a haircut. Luckily I was able to place the stone back in but I hadn’t really worn them since (besides not liking the pear shape they came in). Having another pair of opal earrings was something I really wanted because I knew I would wear them every day… and jewelry isn’t something I ever cheap out on. I purchased myself a pair of diamond earrings because I am woman hear me roar & I don’t need a boyfriend to do so #independentwoman #girlsruntheworld After awhile I had completely forgotten about this and tried to fill my void with other fake earrings, that I couldn’t even wear for a long period of time without my ears turning green. So on Christmas morning I was looking forward to getting my Christmas chocolate in my stocking like I do every year. At the very bottom of my stocking was a tiny box that said “SISTER” on it. When I opened it up and saw these earrings I was floored. I couldn’t believe he got me new earrings! It was such a sentimental gift, especially from my little brother. The relationship I have with my brother is the typical older sister and little brother bickering… we communicate mostly by making fun of each other. So during the holidays it is the one time we put the bickering aside for just one day. Normally he knows to get me something related to the New York Rangers so this was a real surprise for me on Christmas morning. Who knew little brothers could be so sweet?

Since this is a fashion/beauty blog, I can’t not talk about fashion…. when the above 2 paragraphs had nothing to do with fashion. But they were leading up to this I swear! The title of this post is about being a repeat offender. We all have those outfits that we really favor, I don’t care about being a fashion repeat offender. Kate Middleton does it all the time. Ok maybe not as often as I do but I am not technically a royal princess. In my own world I am.. where every one is happy with pizza and puppies. Point is, if you like the outfit. WEAR IT DAMNIT!

My Christmas Holiday Party look. In the beginning of the month I attended what my friends from college have named “A Horrible Christmas Brunch” or “Christmustache.” The boys go with the later name, but being a girl I can’t participate in how they do. We meet up for brunch and then bar hop for the rest of the day and into the night. The residents of Park Slope haven’t hated us too much yet. Last year I was unable to attend as I was away in California visiting my best friend. It is not a day I like to miss out on. Now that you understand what we do during this party, you will understand my attire. I wanted to keep it casual, yet a little festive. Wearing winter whites is my new thing this year, it is risky (especially with this crew). I took the chance any way. My outerwear was rather questionable, but I hate having a large coat with me while at the bars. Since I loved this outfit so much, I decided to wear it to my Christmas Lunch for work too.

Tradition continues, those who cannot attend will be the face of the Lama on my friend Tom’s shirt.

If you are wondering where he got this amazing sweater, it is from Target

Christmas: I couldn’t get a full head to toe look on Christmas Day because my little cousins immediately dragged me to show me all of their new Christmas presents and to watch the shows their American Girl dolls would be performing. I must say this top got double the wear within the last 2 weekends of the year. Not only did I wear this top on Christmas Day but I also wore it on New Years Eve. If it looks familiar, it is from my Black Friday Haul. To make an extremely long story short: I ordered this on Black Friday, 2-3 weeks later my package still hadn’t arrived, contacted Missguided: YOUR PACKAGE IS LOST. Me: LOST?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN LOST?! Missguided: “its ok we’ll fix it”, they sent my items overnighted without any extra charges & honored their Black Friday prices, got my items a few days later, happiness.
For Christmas, I wore this top with my new favorite Express Mid Rise Jeans and Suede Sandals. It was 60 degrees out on Christmas in New York. I’m still shocked too… With a nice cat eye (which took me 20 minutes to do!) and a red lip, it was a fun classic make up look with my new gold top.

Outfit Details…

I loved this top so much I included it in my “overnight bag” while visiting my best friend in her new apartment. She shops in my closet so I had to bring 100 options with me. My new overnight bag broke about 100 feet from my car #chronicoverpacker I was really looking forward to wearing my custom shirt that my cousin had made. What I had forgotten is that I folded it in my bag. WRONG MOVE. When I took it out the bottom line had started to lift, it made me very sad. She had just moved in and we couldn’t find her iron… I couldn’t bear to think of ruining the entire shirt so I did not wear it. Instead, I wore the same awesome gold crushed satin top from Missguided. I kept the same makeup look from the pictures that I took because I enjoy looking like a raccoon. One bad ass raccoon.

My Best friend’s Outfit details may look familiar….

Now as I have stated that I normally do blogging on the weekends, so here are my excuses why there will only be a few posts this week….

  1. the holidays were on the weekend and I can only take pictures on the weekend. Why?
    1. by the time I get home from work the sun is down
    2. Weather
    3. Lack nice lighting inside/ don’t own “studio lighting”
  2. my only day off this week, the weather decided to be weather
    1. it rained.
    2. I take my own pictures (a majority of the time) so using a tripod in the rain isn’t something I feel comfortable with
  3. I refuse to put half ass quality blog posts – Brooke from the Notebrooke spoke about this and I really agree with her on this one. I don’t want to put out a post just to put out a post. or even do it for the gram.

Stay tuned for more new looks this year! I’m really excited for the new things to come and have a full 365 on this blog!!

Winter Whites & Faux Fur

Not too long ago I posted about this white jacket, I really have become such a fan of the winter whites. It is pulling my away from the head to toe black looks I tend to wear on a daily basis. Some times I wonder if I really am Wednesday Addams all grown up… but my parents never let me have a guillotine like she did, being a historical form of the death penalty didn’t change their minds either… moving on…

As I have previously posted about this faux fur scarf, I wanted to show you other ways of how it can really change your entire look. Today I paired this white jacket with a cream sweater that I got from Express. Its really itchy. Wear a shirt underneath it to battle the itch, and to stay warm. I love the look of the sweater, just not the feel. Despite all of that I really do like the sweater enough to want to wear it. Recently I have also read an article that I found through Bloglovin’ about a jacket style trick. If you haven’t downloaded this app or signed up for it, I highly recommend that you do. Its such an easier way to follow all of your favorite bloggers & interests in one place.. plus I’m on there too – SO FOLLOW ME! Any way, the point of the article was to pull your sweater, blouse, or shirt out long enough so that it can be seen at the bottom of your jacket sleeves. Now I have done this in the past without knowing it was a style trick but more of a way to keep my hands and fingers warm when I’ve left my mittens/gloves at home. It is also a great way to show off the pop of color in your outfit too! Read more about this style trick here on who what wear.

To make this jacket look different, I placed the faux fur scarf around my neck and simply let it hang, it looks like it is part of the jacket collar. Since I can’t seem to get away from the color black, and these are my new favorite boots for the winter season, I wore my over the knee boots with this look and a pair of dark denim jeans from Express.

Onto the accessories… this necklace I got from Dynamite has definitely gotten more than its worth for the amount of times I’ve worn it and I really am into the starburst and celestial styled jewelry. I just wanted to add a little accessory for when I am indoors and not just outside all day. These sunglasses. Oh these sunglasses from Quay Australia. I am a sucker for a pair of cat eyed sunglasses and I really love the rose gold frames. This outfit was the perfect excuse to wear them, they don’t always go with my all black Wednesday Addams look but they do go with my winter whites 😉

Outfit details…

With the holiday season beginning this is a fun outfit to wear for a casual holiday party with friends or if you are out in New York City (on a warmer day of course) to see the tree in Rockefeller Christmas tree, the window displays on 5th or the decorated houses in Dyker Heights (which is my personal favorite).

Black Friday Online Haul

I hope after a nice 4 day weekend everyone is adjusting to the swing of things. A long holiday weekend filled with non-stop eating and socializing and shopping we all feel like we need a break from things. Can’t stop now though, not with the holidays right around the corner! Previously I have posted about how to get your black belt in shopping on a black Friday. I truly hope this helped some of you when it came to shopping. This year I decided to go on a different route when it came to shopping, staying at home in bed and all of my shopping was completed online. Last year I did venture to the stores after my holiday dinner, luckily I had Thanksgiving at my house so I didn’t have to worry about the long travels home and then to the stores. What I discovered is that most of the stores begin their “Black Friday Sales” on Thanksgiving, so there is no need to wake up at the crack of dawn or in the middle of the night to head to the stores. This worked out in my benefit because I was able to quickly get what I needed and leave before the insane crowd of people arrived to cash in on these sales.

This year after my family left, I jumped on my laptop to see if there was anything left in the wish lists that I had created the weekend prior. Unfortunately, half of the items I was lusting after were no longer in my size or completely sold out. My bank account rejoiced with this news… I on the other hand was disappointed & saddened but realized that there were no need for half of the clothing items I wanted.. I mean how often was I going to wear a royal blue suede jacket? Probably once. On the positive side there tends to always be a sale during the holidays so IF some of these items were to come back in stock (like this beautiful black suede and faux fur jacket from ASOS) then I may consider it a sign from the shopping gods to purchase it… but let’s talk about what I DID purchase.

The great thing about shopping online is that I had multiple tabs open after adding everything to the carts so I can compare what I was buying. Sometimes you don’t realize that you gravitate towards similar colors or styles. With Express I knew that I wanted to buy a ton of sweaters that I could wear to work and I desperately needed a couple pair of jeans to hold me over until I can buy a nicer pair or 2 or 3. We all go through a point in our lives where our body shape changes, for me personally it was from all of the “excessive partying” lifestyle. After a bit of a health wake up call I was forced to change my “partying lifestyle” ways to a healthier one. What hadn’t changed is that I am a shopping addict. So after purchasing MANY stretchy jeans, none of them fit me. That’s the unfortunate part of those types of jeans, they stretch out but never stretch back in… so I have to have a few pairs to hold me over until I can buy at least 2 nice pairs (at a discount of course 😉 )

Most of the sweaters I got I wanted to be able to wear for multiple occasions, who doesn’t want multiple looks out of one item? I know I do. My main goal was a balance of casual and dressy items. Since I also recently purchased an all white outfit, I decided this winter I wanted to wear some more lighter shades rather than my gothic Wednesday Addams go to look. Missguided was having a sale that was 50%! I pinned this gold off the shoulder top a few months ago and decided this had to be one of my holiday looks. Luckily it was in stock and in my size. The Dynamite off the shoulder look is some what similar but longer sleeved, a girl needs options! These looks I can wear all throughout the winter and show off the metallic trend for the winter. A win, win in my book.

Adding a little bit more color into my wardrobe is a challenge, I’ll admit. Since pink/blush tones are a trend for the fall/winter I wanted to slowly dip my toes into this trend. In my Quick post: Turkey Day outfits I suggested this sweater as an option for a holiday look, now I wouldn’t recommend anything that I wouldn’t wear myself. The more I thought about it, the more I liked it… stay tuned for how I feel about wearing pink rather than white or black. Missguided also had a cool graphic shirt that had part of LA & NY on it, I have a secret love for California… truly I do. Last spring I really didn’t feel like coming home while visiting there because who doesn’t love sunshine every single day?!

Now onto the classic slip dress. I’m pretty sure this isn’t something that you are suppose to wear out in public but I don’t really care. I’m not one to follow the “fashion rules.” If I like it, I’ll wear it….. and Shay Mitchell posted this in her winter look book (which you can watch all of its awesomness here). I’m really excited to create a look with this and see how many looks I can get out of it. During the spring/summer months I love wearing dresses and rompers because I don’t like wearing pants. It is so freeing not wearing any pants. During the winter I become a person with so many layers because IT IS BRICK outside. So I’ve decided to challenge myself on wearing dresses in the winter.. stay tuned for the posts where I let you know if I turned purple or blue from it.

Below are the links to all of the items that I purchased. Any one get any major deals or purchase an item that they have been lusting for that went on sale? I’d love to know! Leave your thoughts below in the comments!

  1. Missguided crushed satin bardot blouse gold
  2. Urban Outfitters Slip Dress
  3. Dynamite Mixed Fabric Sweater – Pink
  4. Express Side Zip Hi-Lo Hem Crew Neck Sweater
  5. Express Fitted Crew Neck Sweater – Deep Violet
  6. Missguided contrast sleeve cold shoulder tunic white
  7. Dynamite Satin Off the Shoulder Blouse
  8. Express Black Mid Rise Jean Legging
  9. Express Crew Neck Shaker Knit Sweater – Soft Ivory
  10. Express Solid Dark Mid Rise Jean Leggings
  11. Missguided black spliced city of new york print t shirt

Lastly, my most expensive purchase was my new camera! This was a serious splurge and a major investment. It isn’t the first time I have considered buying a DSLR camera, when I was in college I really found a love for photography.. Mostly it would be during family events and I had a lot of fun doing it. My little cousins were my main focus and now their parents have at least 500 photos or more of them because of my constant snapping. Now that I have a very good reason (my blog) it is worth having. If you recall my tip for comparing your items, this can become confusing. And it did. What I thought I was ordering was actually the Canon Rebel t5 and not the Canon Rebel t5i. Ironically I noticed this hiccup 2 days later… when I was writing this post…

Operation Dumbass:

Since I now realized why people go to the STORE to PURCHASE ELECTRONICS, I have learned my lesson. If I would have gone to Best Buy I could have easily avoided this entire debacle… but it wouldn’t be me if there weren’t some type of hilarious stupid moment. In a complete panic I call the store to find out when the sale ends, which was Saturday. I ordered my camera on Thursday night… the camera won’t be delivered until the follow week. CRAP. Calling my friend in a panic I ask if she will come with me to keep me calm as I rush to Best Buy to get the camera I REALLY wanted… they claimed to have 3 available in stores. Well. I get there. And they do not. Son of a biscuit eating bull dog.

I explained my dumbass-ery to the sales associate/really awesome dude and he totally understood my situation. He even checked the storage room to make sure they didn’t have any in stock. And they still didn’t. Instead of letting me leave the store all upset he told me to order it with them and he would wave the shipping for me. AWESOME. But he wasn’t done just yet with the sale.. he made sure it was 1 day shipping. Legend – WAIT FOR IT – DARY. LEGENDARY! THANK YOU BEST BUY FOR HELPING ME WITH MY DUMBASS PURCHASING MISHAP. Working in customer service can be tough, and it is something I completely understand. I knew he was only doing his job by giving me the let down information and I didn’t dare take it out on him, I only inquired if I should purchase it online myself or if it would be easier in store. He assured me that by purchasing it through the store I would get it faster and if I ordered it online I wouldn’t get my beautiful camera until mid-December. Operation Dumbass ended successfully in my book. Lesson for all of you: GO TO THE STORE!
Canon - EOS Rebel T5i DSLR Camera.png

Special thanks to my friend Alison for accompanying me on Operation Dumbass, your calming presence was much needed as was your laughter. Huge thanks to Best Buy, your employees really go above & beyond for their customers… and for laughing with me that tryptophan is dangerous when shopping online. You guys are great!

Layers of White

This is the first ever white monochromatic look I have ever done. And I mean EVER. There have always been a few reasons as to why I wouldn’t… 1. because I am clumsy, there is a chance I will spill something or just get the clothes dirty within the first hour of wearing it. 2. because I am so fair. Let me go a little further into why I avoid wearing so much white…

Although wearing black head to toe has never been a problem for me and actually makes me look paler than I already am, I’ve always had a complex about being so fair. Since I was younger I always had milky fair skin, in the summer time I would tan but as I got older that tan turned into me burning. It is the Irish genes that truly shine through. Sometimes people would ask if I was feeling ok because I was so fair, others would make comments about me being so fair that I was transparent. During my teenaged years this of course bothered me and quickly became an insecurity. How does one fight against this? Easy, get a fake tan. This was such a disastrous  process. Tanning lotions didn’t work because nothing at the time worked with my skin tone that didn’t make me look like I was orange… so I went the route that every girl my age had been doing. Tanning Beds. This went on from my teenage years into my college years and even post graduate years. As horrible as it was for my skin, I didn’t care because I did not want to be made fun of any longer. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I decided I didn’t care about being so fair any more. My Aunt who has beautiful fair skin looks SO MUCH YOUNGER than her real age, why? Because she took care of her skin! She protected her skin from the sun! The damage that I probably did to my skin already can’t be reversed obviously but I can take care of my skin going forward, which is what I decided to do. And I am really glad that I decided to accept my beautiful milky skin tone because it shows.. now I am complimented about how nice my skin looks. Those tanning beds truly have serious damage and no one wants to look like a used leather suit case. Now I will be honest that I have gotten a spray tan this past year but I finally found a place that will adapt to my skin tone, not just a one color deal. So not only did I not look orange but it was a perfect sun-kissed glow for a special occasion, not just because.

So lets jump back into my outfit because this is a fashion blog after all. I found my inspiration through instagram, of course, and I have previously posted about her – Miamiamine. Her style is beautiful and I really loved this look she put together from her Instagram.. I was able to find the exact cowl neck tunic she was wearing (with a discounted price) but the rest of her outfit was still out of my league in the price department. The cream waterfall cardigan was perfect for this look, I wanted something a little longer since I would be wearing it to my cousin’s baby shower. It was a bold move to wear all white, especially since the little ones would be there but I wanted to take that fashionable risk! When I got the coat in the mail from Missguided it was the first order I ever made from them and was unsure about how their sizes ran… it is a little bit bigger on me than I would’ve liked it to be, however.. I can wear a thicker sweater underneath this for future use so I wasn’t too upset. The material is very soft and almost felt material.

Having a creative personality and mind can be good and bad sometimes.. I always have a vision in my head and it drives me absolutely mad if I cannot bring it to life or how I saw it in my mind. Putting this outfit on for the first time was exactly that. I was unsure. The color of whites did not match, the shoes I was pairing it with were making me uncertain… it was almost a complete disaster. So what I have learned to do is take a step back, put it away and let it go for the night, come back to it tomorrow. After sleeping on it, I realized that I am never going to get the whites to match.. not only is it different fabric and material but it brings a nicer contrast of white. Now I am also ballin on a budget here, so buying new shoes for one outfit is utterly ridiculous. Ladies, listen up. If you cannot think of at least 5 places and events that you can wear the item to in under 60 seconds then IT IS NOT WORTH THE PURCHASE. I knew I would never wear grey/silver knee high boots to work, out with friends, to dinner, to the club/bar, to a ranger game. Just no. I wouldn’t. I used my noodle and I borrowed a friends pair of shoes.. it is worth it to shop in your friends closet, its a money saver for that one time use you may need it for. Although I may just buy these shoes myself because I can think of multiple places I’d wear them (work, out with friends, holidays or holiday events or a date).

Outfit details….

  • Free People Ottoman Tunic in Cream – I purchased this from Gilt, at the time they had my size (I am wearing a size small) currently they only have medium & larges left, you can buy the same one from Lord & Taylor here. And if you’d rather not splurge here are two affordable options: Macys option or forever 21 option (style tip: these aren’t long enough to wear them as a dress so I recommend wearing it with jeans or even leggings)
  • Missguided Waterfall Coat – helpful hint: I used a coupon code from retail me not to get money off of this coat 😉
  • DSW Dolce Vita Chelsea Booties – I convinced my friend to get these earlier this season & she has gotten a lot of use out of them. They are super comfortable and I highly recommend getting these booties.

It was a miracle that I didn’t get this outfit dirty for the entirety of the baby shower. That included my little cousins climbing on me to sit on my lap, avoiding projectile vomit from my goddaughter, the waiter not spilling anything on me when bringing my food/taking away my plate, spilling any type of food while eating (I told you I’m clumsy), spilling drinks, etc. The shower itself was absolutely beautiful… my cousin Nicole has amazing style, I am always sending her pictures of outfits or potential buys. She has a black belt in online shopping so I take her word when it comes to new websites and the fitting/make of the clothes. Throughout her pregnancy this year she has continued her amazing style, and let me tell you she finds the cutest and most comfortable outfits! Its such an amazing gift.. and speaking of gift, she is having a little girl who I cannot wait to meet.. I already have many little cousins and a majority of them are girls but one more is even more fun. Playing dress up with them and all fun girly things, plus I get to see their personal style grow as they grow up.

Congrats again to this beautiful mama to be! I wasn’t kidding when I wrote that she has amazing style!

xx Sarah
