Clearly, I have a thing for the city of Miami. This time I was here to party… more specifically for my future sister in law’s bachelorette party. When she told me where we were going I was beyond excited, and I knew that I wanted to wear lots of color. I mean I’m in Miami where bright colors are everywhere.
This really pushed me out of my comfort zone in many different ways…
It seemed like forever ago that I discovered this website while searching for celebrity looks. Who doesn’t want to wear the same outfit or have the same sunglasses as your favorite celebrity? Sometimes it can be a difficult task to find the item, or even a dupe. What I did discover is this really awesome website called singer22. They have a list of celebrities with photos and the item that they are wearing. Some celebrities have more options than others but lets be real here. Can’t have every single designer or custom made item that they have now can we?
At the time I was looking for this sweater that I saw Kim Kardashian wear. My fellow apple bottom girl’s style was one I was trying to copy or figure out which silhouettes worked on me and which didn’t. I admired Kim then and I still do now for pushing through the fashion industry of what a “normal” body type is. Although I may be petite, I also have wider hips… so I don’t fit into the “typical/normal/standard” shape most designers are creating their looks around. We are all different shapes and sizes, so finding that one look that compliments you is always a total score. Especially when you feel insanely confident in the head to toe outfit. I am the type of person who looks at someones inner beauty before looking at their outer beauty. I try not to judge a “pretty girl” so quickly because there are things that I don’t know about her.. reasons why she dresses they way she does, style herself the way she does, the day/week/month she’s been dealing with. Any one who radiates happiness is a good person, they have a good soul in my book. Happiness is contagious and its something I prefer to surround myself by. What also makes me happy? Finding that one item that you’ve been searching for… and its rather affordable.
This fringe sweater was in my price range that I was willing to spend at the time. It was so long ago I can’t recall the exact price but lets say it was between the $50-75 range. Not terrible for a Kim Kardashian sweater right?? The brand she is wearing is called Sam and Lavi. Since this was from so long ago the sweatshirt is no where to be found.. but not to worry! I left plenty of options of similar looks and more current looks. If fringe isn’t your thing then lets bring it up to todays style… cold shoulders & distressed sweatshirts. These are a very popular trend this past fall/winter. I wouldn’t want a sweatshirt that is too distressed in the winter but again, this is totally up to you and your style.
A fun little fact about these photos.. I have a terrible habit of getting makeup on my contact lenses. No idea how it happens but it often does. I tried to push through taking these photos without looking like I was winking all the time or crying haha! Needless to say those contacts are long gone now thanks to my liner that refused to leave the lense!
Athleisure is one of the latest trends being rocked by nearly every celebrity, model, and gal walking down the street. Without realizing it I tend to dress rather sporty, the irony is that I lack any coordination to play any type of sport. Hand eye coordination is not my forte. What I do excel at is finding pieces in my closet to participate in the latest trends. Now everyone has noticed Kim Kardashian’s new style since she stepped back into the spotlight. She has been wearing a lot of Kanye’s new line with Adidas and high ankle booties with a basic tee (short or long). This is a style I can get on board with. I can still be comfortable with my joggers and basic tee but feel a little dressier with the ankle booties.

I decided to pull pieces I already had in my closet and change things up a bit… Any excuse to wear these joggers and I’ll take it. Pairing it with my bomber jacket gave it a more sporty look rather than my typical go to leather jacket. To add a little personality to my jacket, I pinned some funny pins my Mom got me for Christmas. She knows her daughter well… Pizza & beer!
Because it is freezing out, I grabbed my faux fur scarf to translate Kim’s California look to New York style. It is freezing here you know… Lastly, I wore my new suede high ankle booties from Steve Madden. Although Kim has been spotted wearing more pointed toe booties that are laced up, I wanted to work with what I already had instead of going shopping for a particular outfit.
Kim wore these amazing sunglasses to the airport in the look I was inspired by. I do not have a pair that looks like these (yet) but I did want to bring out the red in my pins on my jacket, so I went with my favorite Shop Sonix pair. Who doesn’t like a pop of color to your outfit?
Before Kim Kardashian disappeared from social media, she hinted at this trend ever so briefly. I was slightly unsure about this trend to be honest here. Wearing such heavily destroyed jeans that looked like denim chaps weren’t a trend I really wanted to participate in. Nor would it be something that I would wear. Destroyed denim is my thing. I like paying for destroyed items, my father cannot seem to wrap his head around it. Some days I am convinced he purposely repeats this conversation to simply annoy me. But I digress. Before I really decide to commit to a trend I like to see how other girls are styling it. Instagram and Pintrest inspiration is a must. I hadn’t really seen any one wearing this out in public, and I was frankly afraid at the look I was going to give or even the remark. “Hi, umm you fishnets are showing… no the umm.. the top of the fishnets, you know where the control top would be.” Yeah that sort of awkward conversation.
So I waited, and I waited. Of course some of the first ones I had seen were. Not good. The trend was immediately dismissed. But then, I saw a change. Not everyone was doing the same thing. Many of my jeans are ripped at the knee, and I started to see some girls wearing that. An extra layer in the winter isn’t so bad.. so I continued to look. Fishnets were EVERYWHERE. My teenage angst self was beyond excited to see this. It was nearly a part of my every day wardrobe back in the day. So I was looking forward to trying out this trend to see if I liked it. Now I hate explaining myself but I am going to do this any way. When I decided to jump into this trend I dove into this head first. I wasn’t going to ease my way into it. No. I was going to honor Kim by trying a very similar style, but with my own flair of course. I found these jeans on sale from ASOS in petite. Yes! A jean that will fit my short self! What worried me was the rise. Low rise. A girl with wide hips isn’t friendly when it came to this type of jean. But they were $24 and ASOS is great with returns, so why the hell not. After trying these jeans on I will definitely say that plumbers crack is a risk you are going to take wearing them. If you plan on standing the entire time then go for it. Since these jeans are so damn low, I went for that Kim K look. Pulling my fishnets above my low rise jeans and up to my waist. Yikes, this was so strange. Insanely strange. But I kinda liked it. The inner seams of the jeans were zippered at the bottom which gave it a different look. Of course I paired this with my high top converse sneakers and band baseball tee (which I knotted for a more fitted look) . If I am going to honor my style, I am going to do it dammit!
As I’ve mentioned I like to search for inspiration from Pinterest. Below are some of the pictures I drew inspiration from. The fun part of this trend is that I can wear these with multiple styled jeans… you can wear this with knee ripped jeans, boyfriend jeans, extremely destroyed denim, cropped ankle jeans, whatever your hearts desire. Mixing up the color of fishnets or even the print can be a lot of fun too.. this is a trend you can experiment with and definitely have a lot of fun with. A little bit of advice, always take a picture of your outfit before leaving the house. You wouldn’t believe the amount of times I have even said “YIKES GIRL! Change your outfit” to myself.
