Nothing to Wear

Sterotypical shirt for me right? Nothing to wear. I knew I had to pair this shirt with a really awesome look, the problem is I thought of 100’s of them! Settling on these velvet wide leg pants I picked up in La Jolla, I realized I went back to my typical color combo: black, white and hints of gold. These pants are extremely comfortable and comes in a “one size fits all” notion. Even when purchasing these I was slightly hesitant but they fit perfectly! Since the waist band is stretchy I was able to wear them as high waisted, well I really had no other choice since I am short.

Of course you wouldn’t see me in anything else but converse sneakers. They really are my go to daily sneakers. I work in NYC and everybody is walking everywhere, you have to be comfortable. These sneakers go with just about everything, as you’ve seen over the past year I tend to pair them with almost everything.

My accessories is what ties in the hints of gold, I tend to be very minimal or repetitive with my accessories. So finding the best black and gold accessories isn’t really that hard if you know where to look. I knew I wanted an every day watch that was all black. Scrolling through instagram I stumbled upon these gorgeous and AFFORDABLE watches that fashion bloggers were promoting. (This was way before I decided to start blogging myself) Once I was able to get that watch for myself, I wear it with just about everything. This dainty bracelet was from the Create & Cultivate Event I attended in the spring. I was a small reminder of what I learned that day, all of the positive advice I was given and to dismiss all negativity. Together they are my best paired accessories!

NYC Weekend Fashion

SURPRISE! I’ve re-done my website! Super excited to finally share this as it was a long time in the making. Let’s jump into what this blog post is about – FASHION! Last weekend I took my little cousin Zarah to New York City to see Time Square and Swan Lake. Being my mini me, I wanted to coordinate our outfits. I’ve been eyeing this jumpsuit from Lulu’s for some time now – although the back of the jumpsuit is really what makes it so gorgeous, it was absolutely fall weather that day… so my jacket was not coming off haha! I loved the wide leg pants of this which made me feel a lot less self conscious about my wider hip section. Of course I paired it with my go to converse sneakers because what else would I be wearing while walking all over Manhattan? Continue reading “NYC Weekend Fashion”

Mean Green Florals

Dynamite always surprises me with the different types of dresses they have every season, I can always find that perfect mix of options that I am looking for. When I saw this dress I loved the idea that I could wear this to work and out to a family event. Anytime when I am shopping if I want to spend a little extra money I try to name 3-5 places/events I can wear it to so I get my moneys worth. It is one of my shopping secrets when it comes to justifying a purchase… other cases I can only come up with “I want it, I need it, I need it right now, I have to have it” which aren’t valid reasons. This dress didn’t push a price point for me but it was $50, a simple dress like it was I wanted to make sure I was going to get my use out of it and it wouldn’t be sitting in my closet. Ironically it had been until I took this photo. It was a way for me to motivate myself to jump back into taking pictures of things I had purchased that I was busting to share.

I am very aware of the shape of my body and how wide my hips are.. in certain photos this dress makes me look a bit wider than I would personally like. What to do? Make the tie a bit tighter to show off my waist line or even add a gold belt to draw attention to my smaller waist line. We all aren’t perfect and I wanted to point out some of my own insecurities and how I have found ways to hide them and focus on other parts of my body instead.

Black & White: Summer Look

My 2 favorite colors, can you tell? I still feel very daring wearing white pants, as a clumsy person can you blame me? I am waiting for the moment where I sit in something and walk 5 blocks before someone says something. A fear any one would have wearing white pants but never the less I still love them dearly. Previously I mentioned this top in another post where I had it in white… honestly I am glad I purchased both. I can mix and match these looks as much as I want. These jeans are mid rise, normally I prefer a high rise jean with this type of top but I am glad I went outside of my comfort zone. Pairing it with my favorite accessories – the Celine sunglasses and my new Rebecca Minkoff bag. Wearing these items as much as I can for 2 reasons: I love them both and I want to get my moneys worth.

As much I try to add my color to my wardrobe I can’t help but going back to these 2 colors.. what are you favorites for the summer?

Reversible Florals

Florals for spring? So ground breaking! Any one else sick of hearing/reading that phrase? Yeah me too. As true as it may be, the weather lately has not been matching the “April showers brings May flowers” phrase. May had plenty of up and down weather, now that it is June I am waiting for consistent sunshine. Without sunshine I get rather depressed, vitamin D is a very strong vitamin lemme tell ya!

When I first spotted this top at Dynamite it made me excited for the warmer weather and the reversible feature. At first I didn’t notice the large sign that said “REVERSIBLE TOP” on the rack, after trying it on I knew this would be something I could wear at work and on the weekends – bang for you buck. After walking out of the dressing room it finally hit me that I could turn the shirt around and quickly have a day to night look. This is what happens when you are constantly on the go!!

This top incorporates a few different trends here. We have the cold shoulders which has continued from the fall/winter into spring/summer trends and the lace up trend as well. I adore both of them! The lace up can be part of the front or the back… much like a mullet you can be business in the front and party in the back 🙂

Summer Sweaters & Shorts

With this wacky spring/summer weather Mother Nature is like the Katy Perry song “Hot and Cold.” For those in between days I found this is the perfect outfit. This sweater I got on sale from Express and its pretty light weight.. still has the cozy factor which is a must in my world. If it ain’t cozy, then I don’t want it. The shorts are new and from American Eagle… what caught my attention was the different washes of denim mixed with these shorts. I hate wearing lighter washed denim because it makes me look a lot wider than I really am, the camera adds 10 pounds which doesn’t help either. The side panels of the shorts had the darker denim to make me feel comfortable but the lighter denim in the middle, everything else was ripped which makes me happy – I love destroyed denim!!

The shoes! I know every celebrity has been wearing these and weather or not they are a quick trend I don’t really care. I fully plan on purchasing at least one more pair of these slide sandals. Maybe not with a giant silk bow on it but they are comfortable. Walking as much as I do on a daily basis I need comfortable shoes. I live in sneakers so with the warmer weather coming I was looking for an alternative – and here they are!

Saturday style

Family is everything to me. The past few weekends have been filled with plenty of family fun, and some not so great weather. The weather kept postponing any kind of days I wanted to take some pictures. So here I am posting some pictures I quickly took at my little cousins dance recital. These 3 little girls have a special place in my heart, there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for them… give them candy, unnecessary gifts, letting them play with my expensive makeup… no matter what I can’t seem to say no to these cute faces. Their mom asked me to do their makeup for the big day since every time I see them they scream “COUSIN SARAH DO MY MAKEUP!” They sat perfectly for me and looked absolutely beautiful!! I may be bias on this but they really are pretty damn cute 🙂 Before the show started I was able to snap some photos of my look for the day…

My outfit for the day I wanted to be comfortable but also stylish.. it was a dance show I was seeing after all. The top I got from Dynamite which I really loved. Ruffles are very much trending right now and I loved the look of this top! They only had a medium in the white and a small would’ve fit me a little bit better but I couldn’t pass up this purchase. The jeans from Zara are very stretchy, when I am sitting they feel a little bit tighter.. the more I wear them the more comfortable I feel.

This watch. It has a story. I have been coveting this and waiting for it to be back in stock… I am not a watch person or into a ton of crazy accessories, simplicity is my main focus. The watch is just a quick simple accessory to my look, loving the all black look of the watch with the hint of gold. Forever wearing black and gold and white together. My bracelet was purchased at the Create & Cultivate conference after I had my aura “read.” Onyx is a form of protection from negativity… anything that will help deflect any negative vibes. Positive vibes only are allowed in my world!

Dynamite Dress: 3 Options, Part 1

Having a basic dress option is key. Personally I fell in love with these simple dresses from Dynamite 2 years ago. There were 2 dresses, one in grey and the other in black, I loved the simplicity of them that I knew I had to have them both. I got SO MUCH USE out of them, and I will most definitely show you how I wear them over the next few months. When I spotted this dress in the store I knew it was time to add more basic options to my closet. Kim Kardashian is always an inspiration to me and she often wears these simple fitted basic dresses. I love the simplicity of it and how you can make it dressy or casual.

Part 1 I will show you how I styled this grey dress. Both are midi length ribbed dresses. Super light and extremely comfortable.

Option #1

I decided to go for a more dressier look to show how you can dress this up a bit, perfect way to transition a day to night outfit as well. Pairing it with a gorgeous statement necklace that tied in the gold in my leather jacket and the grey in in my dress it was the perfect accessory to make this outfit pop. My jacket is a Forever 21 closet archive, but here is a similar one from H&M. These sandals I got last fall from DSW and I am so happy how much use I am getting out of these. | DSW no longer had these sandals listed, here is the exact pair from Amazon and another similar pair from DSW |

Option #2

Casual is always my go to. If you have to quickly run out the door and want to look put together here is a simple look you can base it off of. My cousin gave me this bomber jacket she got from Abercrombie, I couldn’t find the link for it but here is another option  from ASOS I would pair this with. Converse are my go to sneaker for every day, I wear them nearly every single day to work.. they are truly one of my absolutely favorites. But it wouldn’t be a complete outfit without some Quay Australia sunnies now would it 😉

Option #3

Continuing with being casual and it being spring why not go for your go to denim jacket? This cropped denim jacket from Forever 21 has been my go to FOR YEARS! Such a great find.  This Dynamite necklace was another great find in my favorite store.. Unfortunately it is no longer available but here is another option from Dynamite and another from Forever 21. But as I am running out the door these Van’s Slip on Sneakers are perfect for when you are on the go. Can’t forget the Ray Ban’s !

Stay tuned for Part 2!!

Spring Shoulders

The off the shoulder trend continues into the spring, along with this comes the statement sleeve trend. My love for bell sleeves has grown into my love for statement sleeves. I cannot get enough of it, except when I am trying to eat. Then it becomes an annoying trend… but I digress. This cute top I picked up in Zara on my lunch break, after seeing so many blue stripe shirts all over Instagram I wanted to find something different compared to the typical blue stripe shirts that I had been everywhere. This top had the blue stripes but vertical rather than horizontal, I once read that these are more figure flattering… since I am constantly hiding my wide hips I figured this would be a fun new trick. The beautiful sleeves with this top were an added bonus… They aren’t too overpowering either. I could definitely get away with wearing these out to lunch or dinner.
White jeans. These have been on my lust list for over a year. Why did it take me THIS LONG to cave in and buy them? I could not find the right fit or a pair that didn’t seem see through either. Since my hips are so wide I try to stick with the darker washed jeans, they are more slimming for my body type. But I hate denying myself from a color that I could make more flattering depending on how I styled it. These jeans were found in Dynamite. I mean where else would you expect me to find them? I can rave about this store for days on end. What I loved most is that the length fits me perfectly as well. Did I mention they had the frayed ends? Even better in case they stretch out and I need to trim them to fit me better 🙂
