70’s Inspired: Faux Fur & Bell Sleeves

Never did I think that my attire or style would ever be inspired by the 70’s but here we are. Yet another faux fur look. This vest was another item from my cousin’s closet which I am having a lot of fun wearing. I may be late on this trend but I’m having fun experimenting with this faux fur look this winter. After all, I have grown to love the look thanks to Game of Thrones.

Now I recently got this bell sleeved top and I am absolutely loving it. Finding different ways to wear this look is something I am enjoying. What girl doesn’t like playing dress up in her own closet trying to find that perfect outfit to wear…. to sit and watch Netflix haha. My weekends have been pretty much preoccupied with doing things related to my blog so by the time the evening comes I am exhausted or I am writing blog posts into the night without realizing the time. Eventually I will make it back to being social once again and I have the perfect outfit to do so. This outfit was also approved by my grandmother, recently I wore this to her birthday. Since my cousin had given me this vest I wanted to show it off and possibly take an OOTD photo. That was derailed when my little cousins wanted to play until it was time to leave. For all of my readers who are mommies, let me tell you I was very comfortable chasing around kids ages ranging from 1 to 6 years old. The only difference was I was wearing my flat OTK boots.

This outfit choice might not have been the go to look for a family party of pizza and cake but there is something that my grandmother had taught me without saying it to me. Dressing nice to feel better about yourself. She has always been well put together, her hair always done, pearl necklace always worn and matching outfits. It was something I grew up seeing and something even my Aunt’s had done too. Before I knew it I had been doing the same thing. Granted there are days where I dress exactly how I feel, a bum! No shame in having those days, but never make it an every day thing. Dressing in an outfit that makes you feel awesome will instantly lift your spirits, and you don’t have to spend a ton of money either. Take this outfit I am wearing, the only new item I am wearing is the shirt (which I had gotten on sale). The vest, a borrow from my cousin’s closet. Everything else was things I had, it was all about styling what was in my closet.

Bell Sleeved Sweater, Faux Fur & Leather

Rhyming blog post titles. I told you I’m witty. Last month I spotted this sweater in my favorite store, Dynamite.. where else?? I truly wanted to get this in grey because I have so many black and white tops why not combine the 2 and get grey right? Clearly the shopping gods did not want me straying away from my favorite colors because it was not available in my size. If I shopped online it would be a hefty bill (because I can’t control myself), and I am all about the ballin’ on a budget lifestyle here. I digress… Bell sleeves has been a SUPER DUPER popular trend that I am all about.. I prefer a longer sleeve because I am always freezing, being fashionable and warm this winter? I’m all about it. Another trend I have been noticing is pulling these bell sleeve tops through your jacket and having them peep out the jacket sleeves. I cannot recall the name of this trend or a more descriptive phrase but as you can tell by my photos I am showing off my bell sleeves while wearing a leather jacket.

Mid-photosession with me, myself and I.. it was getting colder. Or, stupidly, I wasn’t wearing a warmer jacket. Ah the lengths we go to, just to show off an outfit. I quickly grabbed my faux fur scarf, which I debated on using from the beginning and added it to the look.. Personally, I liked it a lot better. The photographer wasn’t upset that I made this quick change either. And the photographer being me. Yes, I take my own photos with a self timer or remote. Paying for a photographer is not in my budget just yet, I hope to one day be able to work with a photographer (and outside of my backyard). Setting up a tripod in a busy area isn’t necessarily ideal… and getting the “What are you doing??” questions isn’t a phrase I’m quite comfortable answering to a total stranger.

Back to the outfit! Bringing back the jeans and ankle booties look, I’ve mentioned this before and I’ll say it again. I cannot get enough of these booties. They really are insanely comfortable and you can wear them so many different ways too. With my skinny jeans or even ankle flared jeans. The raw hem line with these jeans looks amazing too, check out my previous post where I cut my own jeans. It was an experience, and I am very happy with the results.

Winter flare

Bell sleeves have become one of my favorite trends this season. I didn’t want to overly invest in them but a few different styled bell sleeves won’t hurt no body. Ironically as I write this post I keep having to correct myself when I write the word “bell sleeve.” My dogs name is Belle so it’s my go to spelling when I think of this trend, believe me google must be thinking I can’t spell for the life of me the amount of times I have written “belle sleeve top.”

During my first snowed in day of this winter I went on a bit of an online shopping spree. Not insane damage as people would think, no I didn’t max out my credit card or dwindle my savings. Self control people! But I did enjoy shopping the sale that ASOS was having. I highly recommend making an account and saving your favorite pieces to your wishlist. This makes the “scrolling through an endless feed of items” less monotonous. Using the filters for finding what you are looking for can cut back your scrolling time. If you’d prefer to gofor the Olympics of scrolling though then keep on going! What I did find was this really pretty bell sleeve top. This is something I knew I would wear and it was on sale. ADD TO CART!

About a week later I finally caved and got these to die for Suede booties. Steve Madden’s Edit is a heavy favorite among many people and a super popular item. I now saw why. I mean it’s gorgeous! Did I mention it comes in leather too?!  I don’t own a fitted high ankle bootie but I longed for them dearly. This was a bit of a splurge but I know I am going to get my money’s worth and more with many seasons of wearing this bootie. If I like it enough I may go back and get the same pair in leather. Stay tuned to see if I do…

There are so many ways you can wear this bootie. Here I’ve styled it with my jeans over the bootie. I’ll get into my frayed bottoms in just a minute but I really LOVED how this looks.  Flared jeans are also a popular trend this season pairing it with higher ankle booties is such a beautiful look! Many of the ends of jeans are raw which is what I’m really loving at the moment. The reason why I haven’t purchased these styled jeans is because I have wider hips. I don’t think this trend would compliment my body type. You can also wear these booties with a dress or skirt, so many outfit options.. it’s worth the investment!

The jean experiment: I have seen this done before by other bloggers and even on YouTube. Playing seamstress isn’t something I like to mess around with. Although I know how to sew and work a sewing machine I do not own one. What did work out in my favor this season is the raw hem lines. My jeans are constantly bunching at the ankles, even with a short inseam! Any “expensive/designer” jeans I own (3 pairs) have been to the seamstress to fix the length. These are something I would never mess around with. But my jeans that didn’t cost me a pretty penny (or a discounted price from Century) are in for a rude awakening. Since many of them are stretchy material it isn not worth going to have these hemmed. They have a shelf life and it is not long. X amount of washes before it’s time for new ones. So I finally got sick and tired of my jeans bunching and not achieving the look I have inside my coconut (fun word I like to used for my head). The scissors were out, my jeans were cuffed about an inch and a half… damn that’s a decent amount of stretchy jean material. First snip, YIKES! Ok I can do this.. I will cut in a straight line like an arrow. Phew! They fit! VICTORY!!! I pulled some of the frays out on the bottom to create the raw hem line look. And I gotta say it’s not that bad. I did this to 2 pairs of my jeans so far. Slowly I’ll make my way through half of my collection.

Eventually I’ll slowly invest in nicer jeans, but until then this little trick will do 😉
