Mini Blog: reflecting on the past decade

2019 is coming to an end. A full decade is coming to a closure and were on the brink of a new one. Since I don’t have a blog post up this week I wanted to do a mini post here.

Ten years ago I started off the decade with a huge heart break and a chance to put myself back together. I ended a very toxic relationship, which to this day still has visible scars, and I made a promise to myself that night. Never settle. I have done my best to keep that promise while putting myself back together. For this next decade I’m ready for everything that life throws at me and to chase my dreams even more. My promise to myself this decade is to never hold back. Never hold back from going somewhere, taking that risk, and chasing that dream.

2019 was the first year I became at peace with my mental health. Embracing that it’s part of who I am rather than being ashamed of it. Learning new ways to cope and grow from those feelings. Listening to music has always been a way to drown out the noise in my head. And often you stumble upon a lyric that hits home – “it’ll all be alright.” (Kacey Musgraves – Rainbow) That was my song for 2019.

In 2009 it was “Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. Now it looks as though they’re here to stay.” (The Beatles – Yesterday) My past troubles have remained in the past. And I have learned many hard lessons since then. The biggest lesson of all is not to hide my passions, my dreams, and especially my happiness.

I hope you all know that no matter what you are going through, it’ll all be alright.

Wishing you all a very happy 2020.

Xx Sarah
