Fall weather had been slow to approach here in NYC – so I decided to take a leap and splurge on some new items. Lately, I’ve been feeling as if my style is evolving into a new chapter. The esthetic remains the same of what I have always loved – graphic tees, jeans, converse, anything and everything athleisure. For some reason, I feel as if it has gone to a somewhat more mature level. So without any more babbles… let’s jump into what I did purchase.
Zara’s website sucks you into this world where you feel that these outfits are so sophisticated and chic. The reality is when you try on these pieces you either feel fabulous or out of place. What I have always admired is their outerwear collections, you can never go wrong with a fun jacket or coat. Especially for the fall. I tend to always wear the same coats and feel like no one is ever seeing my outfit because well I am always bundled up and have a “DON’T TALK TO ME” sign stamped across my forehead.
Zara Faux Suede Biker Jacket: I have always admired these jackets but never pulled the trigger to purchase one. Mostly because I am concerned about the rainy days in the fall and the faux suede being ruined. When I saw this jacket, I just gave in completely. The biker jacket style adds a nice edge to any look and it is a perfect medium weighted jacket. Not to mention the sleeve length is perfect too – I ordered this in a size Medium.
Zara Plaid Tweed Coat: Debate is still out on whether or not you want to consider this tweed, but I personally do. Black and white are my favorite colors as if this blog design isn’t obvious enough. Most of my outerwear is black, and having a beautiful white jacket has always been a dream. I loved the print of this coat so much because of the pop of red as the stripes. I purchased this in a size Large because I wanted to be able to wear chunky sweaters underneath without feeling like I was going to have a Hulk moment or embarrassing moment of being stuck in my jacket sleeves. Outfit idea: faux leather leggings and OTK suede boots (flat or heeled) – stay tuned to see if I remember this!
Zara Plaid Tweed Overshirt: My John Goodman shirt/jacket. Unsure if this would be considered an overshirt or a jacket or a coat? I fully plan on wearing it as a light overcoat for a look. Plaid = fall and fall = plaid. It is an undeniable formula and a very stereotypical purchase. It seemed grungey and gave off extreme Kurt Cobain vibes – who is my rock idol. I purchased this in a size Small-Medium since it looked to be rather baggy. This can easily be dressed up or down but I do love how it is styled so simply from the Zara site.
Zara Draped Plaid Shirt: As we know I am rather self-conscious of my hips being so wide so I often try to cover them with longer tops/tunics. What drew me to this top was the knot in the front that was about waist level, as I mentioned in my style tips post – drawing attention to your waistline is the best trick if you have a petite/pear/curvy shape like me. Outfit idea: black ripped jeans, booties, fun fall hat
There are 100 reasons why I love shopping at Express – 2 main reasons are they always have sales and their clothes flatter my body type. It is easy to shop there online since I know my size, and have I mentioned that their short jeans fit me perfectly? I purchased a variety of items so in the words of P!nk – LET’S GET THIS PARTY STARTED….
Express Camo Cover-up: My love for this print has grown over the years, I love a long cover-up because it is easier to throw on especially on grey days. I recently wore this on the first chilly day in NYC and it was perfect. It was a nice print to add to my all black daily uniform. I purchased this in a size Small.
Express Fitted Crewneck Sweater: Express is known for their sweater collection and their love of sweater weather. I always purchase my sweaters from them because they are long lasting! What I haven’t purchased is a sweater in this gorgeous deep red wine color, mostly because I am normally drawn to wearing very dark colors that are nearly black or mostly black clothing – it is a preference and somewhat a lifestyle. This would be a fun color I could wear with my new Zara Faux Suede biker jacket too!
Express One Eleven Skeleton Shirt: If you didn’t know how comfortable and soft this collection is, I AM TELLING YOU RIGHT NOW! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this line by Express. It is perfectly comfortable and honestly, I just wanted to get into the Halloween spirit with this skeleton tee in a size Extra Small, this line tends to be more stretchy.
Varsity Stripe Slouchy V-Neck Cardigan: This was another grunge inspired purchase, and yes it was Kurt Cobain inspired too. I loved the idea of wearing this as a one-shoulder top and it is a cardigan which gave me the option to wear a graphic tee underneath if I decided to wear it open. Purchasing this in a size Small I wanted it to be more fitted rather than baggy.
Express Plaid Duster: To keep this short and sweet, I love plaid and dusters. The combination of the 2 allowed me to live my life to the fullest. I honestly just loved the way this looked and saw this could be dressed up or down. This was also purchased in a size Small. Outfit idea: all black underneath – fitted dress, top and black midi skirt, black tank and jeans, or with a graphic tee and jeans.
High Waisted Ripped Stretch Jean Leggings: The current black jeans that I have are my favorite but unfortunately on their way out, I wanted to have a pair that wasn’t super faded like the ones from Dynamite that I already own and wear to death. I got these in a size 6S.
Today’s look I am wearing

Stay tuned for how I style more of these pieces!
