How to style a pleated skirt

Wanted to share with you all a few ideas of how to style a pleated skirt. I’ve had this cream pleated skirt in my closet since the beginning of the summer, other than not wanting to get it dirty, I’m unsure what kept me back from wearing it so much. The summer heat isn’t easy to deal with and I always prefer wearing dresses and skirts to stay cool. The fun part about pleated skirts is you can pair just about any top with them – I prefer to stick with more of a fitted top or anything that I can make into a more fitted look.

How to Style Pleated Skirt

Pleated Skirts:

These skirts are so easy and flattering for my body shape, they flow perfectly with the right fabric. Colorful skirts are definitely a go to for the summer, I’ve chosen a pink and red pleated skirt to share with these looks. Bold colors are trending this summer and I love how powerful the red pleated skirt is. You can wear it with a simple graphic tee or dress it up with a solid black top – either option is very chic. This pink pleated skirt from ASOS has a bit more shine to it, this would perfect for a fun night out. I’ve paired it with the floral smock off the shoulder top since the print would compliment this perfectly. Other pleated skirts have fun patterns and prints which are so much fun to wear, I’d recommend wearing a basic plain top with these since you don’t want to have too much of a busy look. If you are going with a bold and bright color you can also color block as another way to style these skirts.

Tops:

Depending on the color of the skirt your options are endless. Tube tops are making a come back and it is giving me serious early 2000’s vibes. The Forever 21 pick I’m sharing is bodysuit, making things even easier to wear with a skirt. Graphic tees and tanks are also another fun option, my style is more casual which is why I gravitate towards these so much. Both options are white and can be paired with any of these pleated skirts that I shared. If you prefer something a little nicer than I would go with a crop top, its summer so these are absolutely acceptable to wear in this heat. H&M has such fun options, I love the floral smock off the shoulder top for the white pleated skirt – it adds a nice print without being too over powering. Wanting to keep things a lot simple and chic? Go with the H&M crop top… you can never go wrong with a plain black top.

Shoes:

Since my style is so casual, I always lean more towards a flat rather than a heel. I also work in NYC so walking every single day to every single destination is part of my life, it is best to be comfortable while doing so. White converse sneakers are an easy go to for just about any outfit, this would be best if you wanted a more casual look. To feel a little dressier you can go with either of these sandals, classic black sandals are a great investment shoe to have. The pair I am wearing today are what I purchased from Target almost 10 years ago, don’t ask me how they haven’t broken yet. Slide sandals are a huge trend this summer and I love them, these fun print slides are great to add some print to a more basic look. All 3 of these options are also from DSW – I love a one stop shop and DSW is definitely the way to go.

Fall/winter seasons:

For the fall and winter seasons the solution(s) are pretty simple. Add a fun faux leather jacket or denim jacket to your look – can never go wrong with outer wear. Sweaters are another fun go to, especially with fun printed pleated skirts… giving major holiday vibes. The most obvious choice would be to add stockings to this look, a cute bootie or heel and you are ready for a night out!

All of these looks can easily be mixed and matched. I had a tough time deciding which looked best with which because I’m so indecisive. Hopefully I can make a decision soon as to how to style this skirt next…
