Magic Waves Hair Tutorial

Trying to record this tutorial was a majority of failure over success, but I guess the third times a charm right? As promised here are the steps of how to do this hair tutorial:

  1. Apply “ITS A 10” leave in condition while hair is still wet.. you can brush your hair out or let it air dry without brushing it. Depends on the type of hair you have
  2. AIR DRY – I always let my hair air dry
    • Reason for the madness? 1. its not as much heat applied to my hair, instead of blowing it out and applying more heat with the curling iron I just let it air dry. 2. when I blow out my hair it doesn’t always hold the wave the way I want it to and it always falls out. 3. The most important and final reasoning: I’m lazy
  3. Brush out your hair – NO KNOTS!
  4. Section off your hair – depending on how big you want the waves create the sections. Personally I tend to have 3-4 sections on each side of my head after creating the part that I want. This is just easier to work your way through your hair while making these waves
  5. Wrap the hair around the curling iron/wand away from your face
  6. Hold for about 30 seconds – thicker sections of hair hold for about a minute so it absorbs the heat and takes the wave shape… obviously smaller sections of hair use less time
    • TIP: touch the hair while still wrapped around the curling iron to feel how hot the hair is getting to know when to release
  7. Catch the hair as it falls for it to hold its shape
  8. Spray a little bit of hair spray after each section is completed
  9. Repeat steps 5-8 throughout your entire head
  10. COMPLETED MAGIC WAVES
    1. GO BE A MERMAID
    2. PRETEND YOUR IN A COMMERCIAL AND RECORD YOUR HAIR IN SLOW MO LIKE I DID
    3. DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING
    4. BINGE WATCH NETFLIX
    5. WATCH THE FINAL HOURS OF SHARK WEEK

Something Navy, Touch of Floral

This entire look from head to toe was put together by my personal shopper Serina as I spoke about in my previous post. She knew that I was on the hunt for dresses and finding ways to show off my waist line.. this dress sure as hell does just that. My favorite color is blue so I knew it was going to be a potential buy before putting it on… the moment that I did… it was all over, I didn’t care about the price tag I just HAD TO HAVE IT! At that point I forgot about the prices of these dresses and I was just beyond excited about having this dress. Serina suggested that I can wear this to work with flats, or pair it with a cute pump or sandal for a bridal shower or a night out. I loved that she gave me ideas and options that I could wear this with.. she even said I can wear it with low top converse sneakers. At that moment she totally sold me on this dress.

The lines of this dress are perfect for my body shape, they go inwards towards my waist and out. Bringing the attention to my waist line which is where I want it to be. But the shoes. OH THE SHOES!

These were a splurge and not something I would normally splurge on either. I have seen this floral embroidery every where… girls walking down the street, on instagram, in ads, just everywhere. But everyone had them in the same style.. the shirts, the jeans, the shorts, the bags, the sneakers… just not heels. Hence why I purchased them. They are a bigger platform which is something I am more comfortable wearing and walking in. Although in these photos I was sweating immensely since the humidity level was about 80-90%. I’m sure you can see my hair growing by the shot throughout these photos haha!

White Hot City: My Personal Shopping Experience

The name of my blog can be quite comical to some and questionable to others.. this girl can’t figure out what to wear – why should we follow her? I get it, I get it. It isn’t that I have not a clue of what I should be wearing, I just struggle with which outfit I want to wear first. Options are my thing and sometimes I pick too many and spend way too much time deciding which outfit would go great with what day. This may be relatable to most girls, it is a daily struggle… especially after you go shopping!

Serina reached out to me via instagram and I was always curious what it would be like to work with a personal shopper. Would she tell me I am doing everything wrong? Will she push me to buy things I don’t necessarily need? Will she guilt me into buying things because she feels I ABSOLUTELY NEED IT?! Within the first few minutes of meeting here all of those worries and concerns went right outside onto Broadway blowing away with the hustle and bustle of the streets. She prefers to do a closet evaluation to see the items that I do have, what I could use and what I am really looking for. Due to my impossible schedule I just recommended looking through my instagram feed because it is everything in my closet (minus the sweat shirts and hoodies I hoard). This gave her a really good idea of my style and she listened to the items I was particularly looking for.

By the time I met her at Club Monaco she had already started pulling pieces and had me trying things on to figure out my size (which the sizes I gave her were a little too big haha) and the styles of dresses I was looking for. I love wearing dresses in the summer and I was really on the hunt for items I can wear to work and out on the town. Plus I booked a California trip at the end of the summer so items I could wear there too! She pulled this BEAUTIFUL white dress I cannot believe how quickly I fell in love with it! Now I am going to be up front with you all, this is not the type of price range I would normally EVER shop in.. this is a HUGE splurge in my book and for my followers. Before jumping to conclusions like so…

She was very well aware of the price range I was looking for and pulled mostly from the sales racks… What she did recommend is having staple pieces in my closet that I can wear for a long period of time. Spending that extra money will go a long way, especially if you are going to get a lot of use out of it. I was willing to buy one or two items that I could continuously use for multiple seasons and that I know my favorite little shopper of my closet (my brother’s girlfriend who is like the little sister I have always wanted) will definitely steal. It was a dress I knew if I walked away from I wouldn’t be able to duplicate it exactly how I wanted. So with that in mind I knew I was only going to be purchasing 2 dresses from the store… I have another item I got that I am hoping to take some awesome photos for you all as well! It was a basic item that her and I just loved!

The entire experience of shopping with Serina was nothing but amazing. It felt as if I was shopping with a friend who knew what style and lines flattered me most but the best was she loved fashion just as much as I do. Being around another fashionista just felt awesome, she knew exactly what I was talking about and made it all the more fun.. She was also able to read my face when I didn’t like an item or a particular style. She encouraged me to at least try them on to see if I don’t like it which pushed me past my comfort zone. In a particular case of a button down skirt she had me try on she was right that it did indeed flatter my body type, but it wasn’t something I would wear.. as flattering as it was it just wasn’t my style. She didn’t push me and just said “I see your not crazy about it, no worries let’s move onto the next item!”

She gave me lots of tips and tricks of the items that I did pick out and what to look for. This dress in particular was just a loving favorite and I didn’t want to take it off haha! It was an elastic waist which flattered my pear shape figure.. it pulled in smaller at my waist and that is something that I am always looking for. The cold shoulders and off the shoulder look is something I have been loving, I mean who hasn’t been loving this trend?! The details on the shoulder were also absolutely beautiful. If you can’t tell I am rather obsessed with showing the lace up detail on the sleeves of this dress, aren’t they stunning? Plus it was white and I am LOVING WHITE for the summer! It makes me look a lot tanner than I really am 😀 Lastly, the length, it was the perfect length for my petite frame. No hemming – YAY!

We headed over to Bloomingdales shortly after and picked up another 2 dresses from there. Serina kept my budget in mind the entire shopping trip and knew that there was a sale coming up – she gave me the option if I wanted to wait for the sale where she can return the items for me so I can get the sales discount or find the items online for me to buy. She really does go the extra mile when it comes to her shopping experience. Why pay full price for something if it is going to go on sale?! She had a serious point, the bummer was that the items I had weren’t going on sale but in total cost under $100 each. I wasn’t passing them up, they were mine!! I am determined to get photos of these dresses for you all to see and pushing myself to get it done sooner rather than later!

Overall I absolutely LOVED my experience with her. Her first order of business is to get to know you and your style – what you love, what you hate, the items you are looking for, and ideas of where to wear them too! I loved that she gave me multiple places and ideas of where I can wear these items which made my indecision a hell of a lot easier! Although we didn’t purchase a pair of shoes for this dress she recommended some options for me such as sandals or my white converse sneakers. I LOVED that she remembered how much I’ve worn them in my posts and how much I LOVE to wear them. For today’s post I went with these cute sandals I picked up from DSW the day of my photoshoot. Probably the wrong idea of impulsively purchasing something but I do love the girly detail on them 🙂

I would most definitely recommend working with her and I am absolutely going to work with her again in the fall and probably every season after that haha! Serina will make any girl feel comfortable shopping with her and she knows how to push for sales or when a good time to wait for them to go on sale. She even found one of the items I was debating over online for a cheaper price – shopping ninja strategies!! Below is the link to her website and don’t forget to follow her on instagram as well!

Cooper & Ella: Sample Sale

Last month I mentioned how I attended my first sample sale and showed some previews on my insta-stories. If you don’t watch my stories then I suggest you do.. sometimes I post some funny stuff or BTS moments of my daily life. So let me jump into the entire experience from start to finish….

My coworker invited me to go with her and she was shocked that I had never attended a sample sale. Now prior to this new job I used to work in my home town and never had the opportunity to get to NYC during the week (unless it was for Ranger games). I’d always miss the sample sales but I was sure hoping to attend one soon. I wasn’t too sure what to expect so I tried to have an open mind. Rachel Zoe, Cooper & Ella were among the designer items that were available at this sale. It was definitely a first grabs, first take kinda atmosphere… some people where there to shop and others had BAGS FILLED of clothes to probably resell at their own leisure or a shop they own for triple the price. Trying to navigate through these racks was interesting as no one had any shame in pushing you aside, going around you or getting butt ass naked to try on the clothes. You read that right. BUTT ASS NAKED! I walked away from some nice winter coats and blazers because I was getting elbowed as this woman proceeded to undress right next to me. Not something I was expecting to experience while at a sample sale…. I kept my focus on finding things I either saw online from Rachel Zoe’s line or seeing what Cooper & Ella had to offer. I ended up getting 2 items from Cooper & Ella.

This dress I had high expectations for as I love stripes and anything off the shoulder. Clearly you can tell it doesn’t fit me properly from the waist up. In this instance I would have to take this to my tailor and have the top taken in a bit to fit me more… Having an honest review is something I wanted to share with you all. As this was my first experience in shopping a sample sale these are the things you are going to encounter. I am not in any rush to get this taken in just yet but I know I will before the season is done. I can definitely work this into my early fall wardrobe as well.

You can see how the top is a bit too big for me in these photos, I was a tad bit hesitant to post these photos.. however, I wanted to show you that I am human too. This is what happens when you don’t try clothes on before purchasing them. Would I have gotten naked at the sample sale? Noo. Never. My coworker did have a great idea in wearing a body suit so she can quickly try on these items without having to get totally naked. Smart idea!

Mean Green Florals

Dynamite always surprises me with the different types of dresses they have every season, I can always find that perfect mix of options that I am looking for. When I saw this dress I loved the idea that I could wear this to work and out to a family event. Anytime when I am shopping if I want to spend a little extra money I try to name 3-5 places/events I can wear it to so I get my moneys worth. It is one of my shopping secrets when it comes to justifying a purchase… other cases I can only come up with “I want it, I need it, I need it right now, I have to have it” which aren’t valid reasons. This dress didn’t push a price point for me but it was $50, a simple dress like it was I wanted to make sure I was going to get my use out of it and it wouldn’t be sitting in my closet. Ironically it had been until I took this photo. It was a way for me to motivate myself to jump back into taking pictures of things I had purchased that I was busting to share.

I am very aware of the shape of my body and how wide my hips are.. in certain photos this dress makes me look a bit wider than I would personally like. What to do? Make the tie a bit tighter to show off my waist line or even add a gold belt to draw attention to my smaller waist line. We all aren’t perfect and I wanted to point out some of my own insecurities and how I have found ways to hide them and focus on other parts of my body instead.

Black & White: Summer Look

My 2 favorite colors, can you tell? I still feel very daring wearing white pants, as a clumsy person can you blame me? I am waiting for the moment where I sit in something and walk 5 blocks before someone says something. A fear any one would have wearing white pants but never the less I still love them dearly. Previously I mentioned this top in another post where I had it in white… honestly I am glad I purchased both. I can mix and match these looks as much as I want. These jeans are mid rise, normally I prefer a high rise jean with this type of top but I am glad I went outside of my comfort zone. Pairing it with my favorite accessories – the Celine sunglasses and my new Rebecca Minkoff bag. Wearing these items as much as I can for 2 reasons: I love them both and I want to get my moneys worth.

As much I try to add my color to my wardrobe I can’t help but going back to these 2 colors.. what are you favorites for the summer?

Urban Fedora: Sharing my shopping secrets

Finally I have returned!! I am so happy to be back in the groove of things once again. As I am typing this I am pool side after shooting some quick looks at home. Balancing a full time job and a blog isn’t the easiest task to do. No matter what my full time paying job will always come first, it is a steady income and I am trying to get the ball moving for my marketing career. My work environment is amazing and isn’t something I am easily distracted from… the only distractions is the million options for snacks we have in the kitchen. Other than that I am a busy bee from the moment I walk in to the moment I leave to commute home. Tired is an understatement especially when my weekends are filled with many events.

The holiday weekend I used to recharge my batteries… it continued into the week where I needed some time off. It wasn’t that I hated blogging, i just didn’t have the time or effort that I wanted and prefer to have when I do things for my blog. I always loved the entire creative process and that is something that will never change. I will continue to evolve with the changing processes which I am trying to get into place before the summer is over. I am hoping at least. It is a small goal but I am trying to stay focused on the positive and most important things here, which is the creativity. I will never post anything just to be “consistent.” My consistency is that I have a full time job and this is something I do as a hobby. A hobby which I love and adore… I truly hope one day something can blossom from this, but right now I am still at the beginning stages of it all. The interactions I have had so far have been nothing but wonder and awesome! I love interacting with other bloggers through social media or anyone who leaves a comment. If my funny comment or caption made them smile when they were having a crummy day then I am happy, or if it made them happy or laugh in general then that makes me happy. If it inspires someone to go out and buy the exact outfit or something similar then that makes me happy. Can you tell my goal here is to be happy? Haha!

I woke up feeling like it was time for me to jump back in. It was an itch I needed to scratch and I am sooooo fucking happy to be back! Oh my god! It felt like a century!!! This particular look I have been hoarding in my brain for some time. I share with you all over the winter how I turned this slip dress into a top. And I did it again. Converting my looks into different seasons is 1. Fun 2. making my get my bang for my buck. No doubt I was inspired by a few of the bloggers I followed but these were items I already had in my closet. No need for me to go out and buy anything new. Which is a point I want to make. If you see someone wearing something and you want to recreate the look always look in your closet first before spending the money on an entire new look. This could be something you wear just once, its not worth spending extra money if you don’t have to.

This is my creative process when trying to recreate a look that I see:

  1.  Where is the look from?
    • If this is another bloggers outfit, head over to their website to see if they linked the look.  9 out of 10 times they linked all of the items they are wearing, and sometimes looks for less or similar options if it is sold out.
    • Too lazy? Sign up for like to know it. Most bloggers are associated with this app. You can download it through your phone or sign up here. If you screen shot the look it will show up in the app with the outfit details
  2. Check your closet
    • Always look in your own closet and dresser to see if you already have this look or something similar..even if it is one or 2 pieces from your wardrobe that you already have.. not only is this saving you money but you are creating a look that you are inspired by
  3. Price decision
    • If there is a particular item that you cannot live without decide if it is worth the purchase:
      • Can you see yourself wearing it more than once?
      • Can you name 3-5 places/occasions where you would wear this?
      • Can you find this item for less on Amazon or a similar item somewhere else you frequently shop?
    • Out of my budget.. like waaayy out of my budget
      • OK so I cannot afford this right now or maybe even ever – what are my options?
        • Save up for that item, whether it be a pair of jeans, purse, sunglasses, dress, shoes
        • Check to see if you can find a similar option for something in your price range.. thjs goes into the “fast fashion” topic that was discussed at the Create & Cultivate conference that I attended in May. I am going to get super honest with you… From a designers POV, it sucks… you work you ass off to get your company off the ground and your items are marked at a certain price range because of the quality… from a middle class working girl POV, I can’t afford to spend $200+ on all of these items, especially if it is a trend.. this is going to go out of style in a year so why spend the extra money when I can get almost the same item from a different store that sells in my price range. I get it because I am living that life style now. Is there a way to balance this out? YES! I recommend in investing in designer items that you are going to get every day use out of. Bags, every day shoes, jackets, sunglasses, glasses, jeans. These are items that I am willing to spend a little extra money on… I am not saying spend a grand or more on that one bag or that one coat, be reasonable here and use your noggin and judgement on what you feel comfortable with

These are just some tips and tricks that I use when I am shopping. I even see my cousins who tend to buy the designer items use this rule of thumb when shopping. Why spend a ton of money on just one item when I can find more than one and spend the same amount of money? I hope these tips help you out the next time you are searching for an item or see something you like online. It isn’t about having the in trend items or wishing you were them on these lavish vacations when following these bloggers or social media influencers.. it is about finding inspiration and motivation to make your life better. If seeing a girl constantly travel makes you jealous, wipe off the green mug and book a vacation somewhere or find a place you really want to visit and start saving. Being the green eyed monster isn ‘t going to get you far in life, but using it as motivation to push yourself to do things and flipping a negative feeling into a positive one a better outlook on life in my opinion.
