Girl on the Floor: off the shoulder

I’ve decided to bring back this series of photos because I said so. Although they look like it is easy to take, they really aren’t. I love a challenge so I will be determined to perfect this pose/outfit photo. But let’s get to the reason why I am posting this photo. The shirt.

The top:  I got from Express way back in September. I have worn it once since then. Stupid, I know. Its such a beautiful and comfortable sweater, I really need to start wearing it more. I figured by sharing this post with you all it would light a fire under my ass to wear it more often… just as the cold brick weather is hitting New York too. The detail on this sweater is beautiful and I like how it isn’t something you can easily find too. Normally the lace up trend is on the front of the sweater in the v-neck style, which EVERYONE is wearing. I haven’t caved in…. yet.

You can wear this sweater with a pair of jeans, joggers or even a skirt. I would suggest using a patterned skirt or even a bright color since this top is so simple. Since it is ribbed I wouldn’t pair it with velvet or satin, the textures are too different.

The jeans:  Previously I mentioned how I am now on the hunt for new jeans. Most of the jeans I had in my closet are too big now, damn stretchy fabric. I needed something new and something fast. Luckily Express is always having some type of sale. I got these jeans because I was sick of wearing the high waisted jeans. When I was a little “bigger around the middle” thanks to my partying and terrible eating habits, I was self conscious about wearing any mid-rise and especially low rise jeans. No one wants a muffin top. So I got a ton of high waisted jeans. I still do love them but the ones that I had no longer fit and I felt more comfortable to try the mid-rise jeans. These are not only stretchy but very comfortable. I wear them multiple times during the week and even purchased a second pair. What I also LOVE about these jeans is that they come in SHORT! YES! sometimes with ankle booties they are still too long but I like rolling them up for a different look… plus they aren’t as long as my other jeans. #shortgirlproblems

Sweater Skirt

This is a trend I have been seeing everywhere, and instead of going out and buying a new outfit I figured let’s see if I can recreate this with items that I already have in my closet. Success! Although I will be honest by saying I might get a different skirt, I had some issues with it riding up.

The skirt: I got this FOREVER ago! Remember when the Kardashian’s had a clothing line at Sears? Yeah well that’s how long its been. Just sitting in my closet trying to find an excuse to wear it. And now I finally do! I was also looking for another excuse to wear these OTK (over the knee) boots again. I really do love them, maybe one day I’ll have the Stuart Weitzman boots I truly adore… until then these are a great pair!

  • Kardashian Kollection Women’s Lace Trim Georgette Skirt (closet archives) | similar option here | if you don’t want to wear a skirt but wear a lace dress underneath that might solve the issue that I had with the skirt riding up and sitting correctly under the sweater.. try this slip dress or even this one | one more suggestion : try this mini velvet lace trimmed skirt

  • Express Crew Neck Sweater – I am wearing deep violet, this color is no longer available but you can always wear a black sweater to make it monochromatic or any other longer sweater that you’d like
  • Charles Over the Knee Boot

Weekend Look: The Grinch

The above series of photos I have dubbed “the girl in the chair.” A series you might be seeing often. Any way, this has become one of my go to weekend looks for when I mange to not be anti-social like the grinch. This sweater from Express is in such a beautiful color and I really love wearing it… but I have to wear it with high waisted jeans since it is cropped.

Since it’s the day after Christmas I’m feeling rather exhausted after the mad rush to get everything done last minute. So insert the heavy sigh of relief for a brief moment until we wrap up the last week of the year. I hope everyone had a happy holidays, I can’t wait to share some of the fun gifts I got!

Silver & Gold: Holiday Make-up Looks

Continuing with the make up looks this week.. These can be worn for Christmas or even New Years. I love both looks!

Silver Look Details:

Eyes:

  1. Laura Mercier powder under my eyes… this is going to get messy ladies!
  2. Inner corner of my eyes: I used Verve from the front of my eye to the middle, then packing on Pistol in the middle.
  3. Middle to outer corner of my eyes: I blended Pistol and MAC Knight Divine together
  4. Crease: I went in with a MAC Brush using Satin Taupe to blend out my crease.. I then took a MAC Brush to blend everything out.. constantly blending this look. Since my eyes really pop when I add some purple shadow, I took the color Busted and added this to my crease as well.. blend, blend, blend!
  5. Using the Urban Decay Setting Spray I picked up the color Gun Metal from the first palette and sprayed some setting spray.. I placed this color on the middle of my eyes for more of a silver effect.
  6. Outer Corner: because I can’t help myself when it comes to a smokey eye I added some of the color Dark side to the outer corners of my eyes and blended this until I was satisfied with the look.
  7. Smoke it out! : using a smudging brush, I first took MAC Knight Divine and blended this on my bottom lash line.. after I cleaned the brush off and picked up the same Dark side color and went over this for a more layered effect.
  8. Liner & Lashes: this was a huge tip from my cousin, I used the gel liner before adding my false lashes.

Golden Look Details:

  1. Again I used the Laura Mercier (linked above) powder to set under my eyes, I knew this was going to get a little messy.
  2. I packed on the UD half baked color all over my lid, I wanted this to be mainly gold and not have any other shades of gold involved.
  3. Crease: I blended MAC Soft Brown in my crease to soften this look, since it is a matte color I knew it wouldn’t take away from the golden look I was trying to achieve.
  4. Liner: I can’t resist a good winged liner look and I normally do this with a very neutral look, since this was going to be festive I decided to wing it. Using the Kat Von D Tattoo Liquid liner it was a bit easier to draw out my desired winged look rather than using the gel liner. I haven’t used this liner much but I expected the pigmentation to be deeper since it is a black liner. I had to go over my liner a few times to get the dark black look I wanted.
  5. Mascara & Lashes!
  6. Lips: Oh this lip color is just. I don’t even have a word. It SLAYS. This is by Colour Pop Cosmetics in the shade prim.

Blush.

It is no secret that I love to shop at Dynamite. I could rave about this store for days, but I’ll try to keep it short and sweet here.. Sometimes it is hard to find a store that doesn’t have the same things all the other popular stores are selling. This is what I love most about Dynamite, they stand out from the crowd and these are all things that I would wear, whether it is closer to my type of style or the style for my age. The girls who work there always make me feel super comfortable and are very honest with me when I am trying on my 100 outfits. This makes my experience so much better, with them being honest about how it looks on your body vs. them telling you “yeah it looks great” so they can get the commission. The only love/hate relationship I have with this store is that they only keep certain items for a limited period of time, this is great because its much like shopping in a boutique where after a few months no one will be able to find the same shirt or pants or dress I am wearing… but its downfall is if I’m holding out on spending some money I sometimes lose out on getting that coveted item. The prices aren’t too terrible, some what similar to Express. What is great is that if you fill out the survey at the bottom on your receipt you can get 15% off your next purchase. So even if you got a shirt for $10 or an accessory you can still get that same percentage off!

That was a short as I could explain my love of that store! Lets move on to the shirt I am wearing shall we? I’ve mentioned this shirt before and now that I have it in my possession I still stand by what I said about it. I love it! This is the perfect shirt I can wear to both work and out with friends. The color initially made me a little hesitant because I am so pale but instead it compliments my pink undertones. The series of photos I took for this are called “the girl in the chair.” When there is new furniture in the house, you tend to want to show it off. Also when there is a hockey game on it’s easier to not show your face but snap a bunch of pictures as you stare at the TV. Priorities right? Plus I’d much rather take pictures INSIDE rather than outside in the 20 degree winter weather. (which I have already done)

This could even be a holiday look if you’d like!

Red Velvet

Processed with VSCO with f2 presetProcessed with VSCO with f2 presetProcessed with VSCO with f2 presetProcessed with VSCO with f2 presetProcessed with VSCO with f2 preset

With every outfit there is always a story or a series events leading up to where you wear a certain outfit. This one in particular has a humorous story, I suppose. This beautiful red/wine velvet romper was purchased way back in October for my birthday. Now I will mention again that I like to plan certain outfits WAY ahead of time, even if I don’t know where I am going just yet. Luckily this began with a place and I planned my outfit around it. Well sort’ve. I was determined to go to Vandal and take a picture in front of their famous graffiti staircase! And looking like fire while doing so… the plot began. To find the perfect outfit.

I wanted to be different, like that statement is new. So of course I decided to order from a company on the other side of planet earth, AUSTRALIA! I secretly have a love for the country and its fashion, one day I would love to visit … and swim with sharks. Great White Sharks are there. I’m veering off topic here.. What I failed to look further into was the sizing conversion. I was so excited to order my romper (last minute mind you – so I stupidly paid for express shipping) so I failed to convert my sizing. Since I am half Irish and half Italian, my bottom half was graced with my Italian side. Panic mode. WHAT SIZE DID I ORDER?! OH GOD MY BIRTHDAY ATTIRE IS RUINED! I ordered a size Extra Small… I needed a Medium to fit these hips that don’t lie. The universe granted me with a birthday wish that the romper did indeed fit, maybe a little bit more fitted but I didn’t care I was going to wear the damn thing any way and have a blast.

By the time I got to Vandal and cautiously walked down that infamous staircase I was too happy to have made it down in my monsterous heels that I forgot to take a photo. It didn’t help that my phone suddenly decided that the battery life was drunk. So no fancy photos were taken that night, minus one that I will share at the very bottom of this post….

So lets get to the details of this very revealing romper shall we? It is a deep v plunge neck line, rather risky and limits your dance moves. I took a tip from Kim Kardashian-West (who is terribly missed on social media) and used packaging tape to keep my “itty bitties” in place. Literally taped myself into the romper, using some bandaids as pasties and I was set to go. The robot is my signature dance move so it was ok that I could barely move so that my chest wouldn’t be exposed for all of the NYC nightlife to see. We DO NOT want any of those fashion mishaps. To add a little bit of sparkle to my outfit I wore a star burst y-necklace/lariat necklace from Dynamite & some gold rings. These rings are so old and very much part of my jewelry archives..

Oh and as promised the one photo from my actual birthday celebrations. Don’t believe me? JUST WATCH

Frosty Makeup Look

img_3821img_3807img_3822img_3824img_3830

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done any make up looks. Honestly I was waiting to get my new camera so I could have better quality photos of my make up looks. I’ve seen this look all over social media, at least the eye make up.. even on the run ways. But I have never tried it out myself. With this frosty look I wanted to add a pop of color with the Too Faced Matte Liquid lip in Candy Cane. It is the holiday season after all.. Might as well try to be festive!
